/Home › › the Higashigawa River Each spring, a breathtaking avenue of cherry blossoms appears along the Higashigawa River , which runs east to west through Tokorozawa City. Stretching approximately 5.4 kilometers from Nishiarai Town to Higashi-Tokorozawa, the riverbanks are lined with about 700 cherry trees, forming one of the largest cherry blossom corridors in the city. The soft pink blossoms extending endlessly along the water create a truly magnificent sight. Centering on the classic Somei Yoshino variety, the trees reach full bloom in early spring, gently tinting the river’s surface. Petals drifting in the breeze and floating downstream add a graceful and poetic atmosphere to the scenery. This cherry blossom avenue began when 180 trees were first planted in 1964 to commemorate the Tokyo Olympics. Since then, it has long been cherished by local residents as a beloved walking path.
