1st Nov 2025: Prague’s Old Town (Staré Město)

Image
Prague’s Old Town (Staré Město) is a historic district that vividly preserves the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, with the Old Town Square spreading out at the center of the city.  On the wall of the Old Town Hall facing the square stands the world-renowned Astronomical Clock, known as the Orloj. This extraordinary clock was constructed in 1410 by the clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and the astronomer Jan Šindel, and it has continued to mark the passage of time for more than six hundred years. The Church of Our Lady before Týn, distinguished by its striking Gothic towers, stands within the Týn courtyard, which once served as the commercial hub of the Old Town, and remains an iconic landmark symbolizing the district.  Nearby, the Church of St. Gallus, believed to have been founded in the 11th century, is one of the oldest churches in Prague and has long supported the spiritual life of the city’s citizens alongside its vibrant market culture.  The Old Town is a place where archi...

1st Nov 2025: Prague in autumn

Image
The streets of Prague, adorned in autumn hues, were breathtakingly beautiful, as if I had wandered into a painting. Along the banks of the Vltava River, rows of red-brown rooftops and Gothic spires in the Old Town glowed under a golden light, evoking a sense of harmony between the weight of history and the gentle air of autumn.  The scenery around Charles Bridge was particularly striking, with golden trees and historic buildings mirrored on the surface of the river like a perfect reflection. From the hill of Prague Castle, the view of the city was equally enchanting trees tinged with shades of red and orange blended seamlessly with medieval architecture, creating a stillness that felt as though time had stopped.  On café terraces, people savored the autumn breeze with a warm cup of coffee in hand, while fallen leaves danced along cobblestone alleys, their rustling footsteps echoing softly.  My previous visit was in midsummer, when the vivid green of the trees left a stron...

31st Oct 2025: Prague Castle in the Czech Republic

Image
This was my second visit to Prague Castle since my first trip in August 2024.  As it was during a break from work this time, I couldn’t spend much time taking photos. Even so, the castle adorned in autumn colors was truly magnificent. 15th Aug 2024: St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague

Image
St. Vitus Cathedral St. Vitus Cathedral is located in the center of Prague Castle and is the most important church in the Czech Republic and a symbol of the country. St. Vitus Cathedral has a long history. In the 930s, the Romanesque St. Vitus Church was built. This church became the most famous church in Prague and became the bishop's church in 973. In 1096, a 70m long and 35m wide church was built. In 1344, the Pope appointed Charles IV as Archbishop of Prague and began building a cathedral to establish the capital of the new Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Bohemia.  The first architect was a French architect named Matthias of Arras. After his death, the church was continued by a German architect named Parlège Petr. About half of the current cathedral was built in the 14th century. In the 15th century, construction of the cathedral was stopped due to religious wars, but in 1770, construction resumed and a Baroque-style roof tower with a height of 100 meters was bu...
