21st Sep 2010: Kauai North Shore (Kauai Tunnel Beach)

Image
Kauai Kauai is an island with a beautiful natural environment among the Hawaiian Islands. It has fewer tourists than the other Hawaiian Islands, and you can enjoy a relatively calm atmosphere. The northern beaches are particularly beautiful and less crowded. The beach is home to a variety of marine life, including tropical fish, sea turtles, and monk seals. When I visited, a monk seal was taking a comfortable nap on the beach. The beaches of Kauai are worth visiting for their natural beauty and tranquil environment and are the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Kauai Tunnel Beach Kauai Tunnel Beach is surrounded by natural tunnels and spectacular rock formations. It features white sand and crystal clear water. The "tunnel" in the beach's name was formed by ocean erosion, enhancing the beauty of the beach.     Olympus PEN E-P2 / M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 / 1/50s / F9 / ISO100 / ± 0.0     Olympus PEN E-P2 / M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 / 1/640s / F4 / ISO100 / ±...

21st Sep 2010: Daniel K. Inoue Kilauea Point Lighthouse in Kauai

Image
Daniel K. Inoue Kilauea Point Lighthouse, located at the northernmost tip of Kauai, was built in 1913. At the time of its construction, the two shell-shaped lenses used in the lighthouse, made in Paris, France, were the largest in the world.  The tower is about 16 meters high, and at the top is a circular iron terrace with a handrail. The lighthouse's beam shines brightly on the sea 90 miles away, and for decades it played an important role in assisting commercial ships sailing through the Hawaiian Islands.   In 1930, electricity was supplied by a generator, and in 1976 the Coast Guard converted it from a manned lighthouse to an automatic lighthouse, and it retired.  Three years later, in 1979, it was designated a National Historic Landmark. The surrounding area is designated as the Kilauea National Wildlife Refuge, and rare wild birds live there. The visitor center right next to the lighthouse displays information about the wild birds and nature that live in the area....

19th Sep 2010: Pu'u o Kila Lookout

Image
Pu'u o Kila Lookout is a beautiful lookout on the Hawaiian island of Kauai.  The site is known for its spectacular views of Hanalei Bay and its surroundings. The lookout is located near the access point to Kauai's Na Pali Coast and offers spectacular views of the mountains and ocean. Pu'u o Kila Lookout overlooks the steep cliffs, lush mountains, and ocean of the Na Pali Coast. On a clear day, you can see the beautiful coastline as far as the eye can see. Kauai is also known as the "roof of the Hawaiian Islands," and the mountain range in the middle has a large influence on the amount of precipitation. Pu'u o Kila Lookout is located in the northern part of Kauai, in an area with relatively high precipitation.  Pu'u o Kila Lookout receives a lot of precipitation throughout the year, and is often hit by rain and fog, especially in the winter. If you visit, check the weather and aim for a sunny day to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Olympus E-P2 This is my secon...

25th April 2010: Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch in CA

Image
While living in Los Angeles, California, I often visited The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch during this season to see the fields of ranunculus flowers. The sight of the colorful ranunculus blooms spreading across the area, contrasted beautifully with the blue sky. During the season, freshly picked strawberries are available at the shop by the flower fields, and I had the pleasure of savoring them while admiring the picturesque landscape. In addition to the beautiful flower fields, a large outlet mall nearby offered plenty of shopping opportunities, which I often enjoyed. At that time, I was transitioning from film cameras to digital, and I took many photos with the Olympus Pen camera. Fifteen years later, I think the images captured with the Pen are  still   wonderful.     Olympus PEN E-P2 / M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 / 1/500s / F11 / ISO200 / 0.0     Olympus PEN E-P2 / M.Zuiko ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 / 1/400s / F11 / ISO200 /  0.0   ...
