5th Jan 2022: Hakone in Kanagawa Japan

Image
Lake Ashi in Hakone is a caldera lake formed about 3,000 years ago, and the view of Mount Fuji rising beyond its waters is one of Hakone’s most iconic sights. On clear days, the lake reflects an enchanting “upside-down Fuji,” making spots like Moto-Hakone and Onshi-Hakone Park especially popular for photography.  Along the lakeshore stands Hakone Shrine, founded in the Nara period. Its striking red “Torii of Peace,” seemingly floating on the water, captivates visitors. A moss-covered path lined with towering cedars leads to the main hall, a historic sanctuary once revered by figures such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and the Tokugawa family. Another highlight is the Daikanyama Observatory, a breathtaking vantage point overlooking both Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from an elevation of about 1,011 meters. Recently, its “Sky Swing” has become a sensation, offering the exhilarating feeling of floating in midair with Mount Fuji as your backdrop. This photogenic spot has gained popularity on socia...

5th Dec 2021: Koyama Garden in Nerima Tokyo

Image
Koyama Garden, opened in 1980, is the only Japanese-style public facility in Nerima Ward.  Though modest in scale at about 2,600 square meters, it is an urban garden featuring a pond-centered strolling layout and a traditional tea room, serving as a tranquil retreat for local residents. Despite its compact size, the garden offers rich charm, where visitors can enjoy seasonal scenery and cultural activities throughout the year. 22nd Nov 2021: Rainbow Bridge from Hilton Tokyo Odaiba

Image
The Rainbow Bridge is a 798-meter-long suspension bridge connecting Shibaura in Minato City, Tokyo, to Odaiba. Its official name is the "Tokyo Port Connecting Bridge," but it has become widely known as the "Rainbow Bridge" due to its beautiful nighttime illumination. The bridge opened in 1993 and has since become a beloved landmark of Tokyo. The bridge features a two-tiered structure. The upper deck is used by the Shuto Expressway Route 11, while the lower deck accommodates a general road, the Yurikamome automated transit system, and a pedestrian walkway. Pedestrians can cross the bridge using the "Rainbow Promenade," a dedicated walkway. There are two routes: the south side offers views of Odaiba’s coastline, Mount Fuji, and Tokyo Bay, while the north side provides a stunning panorama of Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, and the city skyline. The walk across the bridge takes approximately 30 minutes one way. The Rainbow Bridge is illuminated at...

10th April 2021: The Azaleas in Heisei Tsutsuji Park

Image
Every April, the azaleas in Heisei Tsutsuji Park, located just outside the north exit of Nerima Station, reach their peak bloom.  I took these photos with an iPhone which is not a current model; while it couldn’t produce the beautiful "Bokeh" you’d expect from a DSLR, the images still turned out quite nicely. I now understand why compact digital cameras have lost their appeal. 27th Mar 2021: My Little Photographer

Image
My journey with photography began at the age of eight, when my grandfather gave me an Olympus Pen D. I took it along on a school excursion and captured my first photos—and I’ve been photographing ever since, for nearly half a century. Perhaps inspired by watching me, my daughter expressed a desire to take photos when she was seven. We gave her my wife’s old E-PL1 and since then, we’ve occasionally gone out together to take pictures. The cherry blossom photos I’ve uploaded this time were all taken by my daughter. I taught her the basics, like camera settings and how to use the electronic viewfinder, but when it came to composition, I simply told her to shoot whatever she liked. Maybe I’m just a doting parent, but I think her sense of framing is quite impressive—she’s already a fine little photographer in her own right. As her father, my biggest concern is how long she’ll keep wanting to go out and shoot with me. Olympus E-M1 / 40-150mm F2.8 by Dararin Darling Olympus E-PL1 / 40-150mm F4...
