Japanese Plum Blossoms Ume: Early Spring Flowers in Japan - 12th Feb 2012

Nerima

It is the plum blossoms that let us feel the arrival of spring even before the cherry trees bloom.

When I see their delicate flowers opening in the lingering chill of early spring, I sense that the new season is already just around the corner.

Brought to Japan from China, the plum has long been cherished in many forms throughout Japanese culture and daily life.

Celebrated for its fragrant aroma, refined elegance, and practical usefulness, the plum tree has become deeply rooted in the hearts and lives of the Japanese people.
