Bougainvillea
In Mexico, bougainvillea is often trained to climb along the exterior walls of houses, gates, church walls, and narrow alleyways. The contrast between its brilliant colors and white stone walls or brightly painted buildings leaves a lasting impression. Especially in areas where colonial-era townscapes have been preserved, bougainvillea brings warmth and a sense of life to the surroundings, making it a symbolic and highly photogenic flower beloved by visitors. Its resistance to drought and relatively easy maintenance are also among the reasons it is widely loved throughout Mexico.
Even though it's the same month of April, the atmosphere is completely different in Japan and Mexico. In Japan, cherry blossoms are a pale pink, but in Mexico, bougainvillea flowers are a vibrant red against the blue sky!
Bougainvillea in Mexico is cherished as an indispensable element of the scenery in towns and villages throughout the country. Native to Central and South America, bougainvillea is well adapted to Mexico’s intense sunlight and dry climate, offering vibrant colors throughout the year. The vividly colored parts that appear to be flowers—red, purple, pink, orange, and white—are actually bracts, while the true flowers are the small white blossoms found at their center.

Celaya, Querétaro, and San Miguel de Allende—places filled with cherished memories—are destinations I hope to visit again someday as a family.
