2nd Aug 2025: Crape Myrtle Flowers (Sarusuberi in Japanese) in Meguro Tokyo
Snapped a picture of some beautifully blooming crape myrtle flowers.
In Japanese, the tree is called 'Sarusuberi,' which translates to 'monkey slip.' It got this name because its bark is so smooth and slippery that even a monkey—usually great at climbing—might lose its grip and slide down.
In English, it's called a crape myrtle, a name that likely comes from its crinkled petals, which resemble the delicate folds of crape fabric.
