12th Oct 2011: The Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai China
While I was on a business trip in Shanghai, China, I unexpectedly had some free time and decided to take a walk around the city. Since I didn’t have my camera at the time, I purchased an Olympus VG-140 from a local camera shop on short notice.
The Oriental Pearl Tower, located in the Pudong district of Shanghai, China, is a striking television tower that stands 468 meters tall. Completed in 1994, it is renowned for its futuristic design, featuring a series of spheres inspired by a classical Chinese poem.
Inside the tower, visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions including observation decks, a revolving restaurant, a museum showcasing Shanghai’s urban history, and immersive VR experiences.
The observation areas are divided into three main levels: the upper sphere at 350 meters, the middle sphere at 263 meters, and the lower sphere at 90 meters. Depending on which levels you choose to visit, ticket prices vary. Both the middle and lower spheres offer access to outdoor terraces, allowing guests to enjoy panoramic views of the Huangpu River and Shanghai’s impressive skyline.
At night, the tower is illuminated with a spectacular light show.
The photo shown here was taken from the upper sphere at 350 meters. I vividly remember being overwhelmed by the breathtaking view, which truly reflected the remarkable economic development of China.
