Prague’s Old Town (Staré Město) is a historic district that vividly preserves the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, with the Old Town Square spreading out at the center of the city. On the wall of the Old Town Hall facing the square stands the world-renowned Astronomical Clock, known as the Orloj. This extraordinary clock was constructed in 1410 by the clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and the astronomer Jan Šindel, and it has continued to mark the passage of time for more than six hundred years. The Church of Our Lady before Týn, distinguished by its striking Gothic towers, stands within the Týn courtyard, which once served as the commercial hub of the Old Town, and remains an iconic landmark symbolizing the district.
