Early Hydrangeas in Tokyo: A Quiet Beauty in Morning Light - 19th May 2026

Hydrangeas Before Their Time

Finding these hydrangeas in central Tokyo, arriving sooner than the season should have allowed.
Perhaps the shifting climate has gently pushed them forward.
They seemed newly awakened, still few in number, yet each petal was pristine - a quiet, flawless beauty unfolding before its time. Even in a fleeting moment, the hydrangeas shone beautifully in the morning sun.

Unlike in the past, hydrangeas now come in a wide variety of colors and flower shapes, and there are many different types and varieties.
I consider them a very familiar flower to me, partly because I use them as my profile icon. :)

Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers, as they used to bloom in the garden of the house where I lived as a child. However, I also have a vivid memory from those days—during the rainy season, snails would often appear from among the hydrangeas, which always startled me since I’m not very fond of them. Even now, whenever I photograph hydrangeas, I can’t help but wonder if a snail might suddenly appear.
