The Shikinokaori Rose Garden in Hikarigaoka, Nerima, opened in 2016 with the theme of “the fragrance of roses,” and has become a cherished place where visitors can enjoy nature with all five senses in the heart of the city. Admission to the garden is free.

The garden is divided into three main areas: the Fragrant Rose Garden, the Color Rose Garden, and the Fragrant Herb Garden. Roses are planted according to six fragrance categories—Damask, Tea, Fruity, Blue, Spicy, and Myrrh—making it one of the few gardens in Japan where each scent is arranged in its own dedicated zone. As you stroll through the pathways, the aroma shifts gently from one area to another, creating a uniquely immersive experience.

In the Color Rose Garden, roses are arranged by hue—white, yellow, apricot, pink, red, and blotched varieties—forming beautiful gradations that create a striking, photogenic landscape. 

Roses reach their peak in spring and autumn, filling the grounds with vibrant color and fragrance. It is a peaceful, Hikarigaoka‑like garden where you can slow down and feel the changing seasons within the city. 

During this visit, I took photos with my wife and daughter, and it was fascinating to see how each of our personalities emerged through the images we captured.

    柔らかい表現が素敵です。

    The first and fourth shots are wonderful, really conveying the feeling that rose season has arrived.
    The soft expressions are lovely.

    コメントありがとうございます。流石です！１枚目と４枚目は手前から奥までバラが広がる絶好の撮影ポイントでした。ここから望遠の圧縮効果と手前の白薔薇へのピント合焦を狙って絞り開放で撮っています。

    Thank you for your words. You are so impressive! The first and fourth photos were taken from one of the best shooting points, with roses stretching from the foreground to the background. I used a wide aperture to capture the telephoto compression effect and just focus on the white roses in the foreground.

Standen House and Garden, located in East Grinstead, West Sussex, is a late 19th-century country house managed by the National Trust. It was built between 1892 and 1894 as a summer retreat for the wealthy Beale family.
