Shikinokaori Rose Garden Tokyo: Roses Through Family Photography - 3rd May 2026

The Shikinokaori Rose Garden

Last time, I shared a collection of spring scenes from The Shikinokaori Rose Garden that I photographed myself. For this second post, I’ve gathered the photos taken by my wife and daughter.

The first 10 images were taken by my wife. Her photos capture roses in calm, gentle tones and flowers wrapped in soft light, as if they are quietly standing still. She has a way of drawing out the natural elegance and presence of each bloom, and her images carry a quietness that makes you breathe a little deeper as you look at them.

The next 10 images were taken by my daughter. She moves in close to vibrant flowers, focuses on the expressions of the buds, and boldly frames the colors in the background.

The excitement she feels in the moment—“This is so cute!”—is preserved just as it is, making her photos delightful to look at. Her curiosity, brightness, and youthful energy fill the entire frame.

As we walked through the same park, my wife quietly searched for beautiful light, my daughter went straight toward whatever caught her eye, and I followed the colors of the season while watching the two of them from the side.

Sharing the same time together as a family, and seeing how each of our perspectives remains in these photographs, made me realize once again how fortunate that is.

Wow! Everyone in the family is a photographer!
    That's amazing! :)

Even when shooting together in the same place, different images are created. Even within a family.

Comparing them, Dararin Darling's work is clearly well-composed and skillful.

Getting back to your family works,

Your wife's work gently captures the essence of flowers, reflecting a feminine sensibility.
Your daughter's work shows her father's influence. I wonder if she's using him as inspiration.

Did the photographer select these frames themselves?
If not, I'd like to see their selections as well. ;)

Thank you very much for your comment.
Since I am the one who loves photography, I’m the one who pulled my wife and daughter into this world.

Before our daughter was born, my wife used to take photos together with me. At the time, she was using a Nikon D40x and an Olympus E‑M1. The D40x has now become my casual walk‑around camera. Now that our daughter is in junior high school and doesn’t require constant supervision, this recent outing was my wife’s first time shooting with a DSLR in quite a while.

My daughter began taking photos with an Olympus E‑PL1 when she was seven, and upgraded to the E‑M10 Mark III when she turned ten.

I’ve only taught them a little—the relationship between shutter speed and aperture, the golden ratio, and a few other basics—but both of them simply enjoy photographing by instinct. Compared to their work, my photos feel a bit like textbook examples, and I sometimes feel they lack a sense of surprise.

I hope we can continue finding opportunities to go out and take photos together as a family.
