Shinjuku Central Park Flowers: Gaura and Lavender in Early Summer Tokyo - 5th June 2026

In the flower beds of Shinjuku Central Park, a harmonious variety of seasonal plants is carefully arranged throughout the year. In particular, during early summer, Gaura (also known as whirling butterflies) gently sways in the breeze, while the refreshing fragrance of lavender delights visitors’ senses.

Gaura produces delicate white and pale pink blossoms at the tips of its slender, graceful stems. Its light and airy appearance evokes the image of butterflies or even swans dancing in the air, blending beautifully with the park’s open and spacious scenery. In contrast, lavender captivates with its purple flower spikes and soothing, cooling fragrance, creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

In addition to these flowers, various seasonal plants that are replaced throughout the year add color and variety to the flower beds. Their rich layers of color bring a sense of natural abundance, even in the heart of the city. The neat and orderly flower beds, set against a backdrop of towering skyscrapers, create a uniquely Shinjuku landscape. It is a place that offers visitors a peaceful moment and a chance to experience the gentle transition of the seasons.

    １枚目にノックアウトされました、素晴らしい！。
    シンプルでいて見飽き無いですね。
    そして、花壇の色とりどりな様子。　色が主張し合い、被写体としては難しいですよね。
    ６枚目、７枚目と最後のコマは良く処理されていると感じました。

    I was knocked out by the first picture, it's amazing!
    It's simple yet never gets old.

    And the colorful flowerbed... The colors are so vibrant, it must be a difficult subject to photograph.
    I felt that the sixth, seventh, and the last frame were very well processed.

      コメントありがとうございます。１枚目はD5500と18-200でどこまでできるかを挑戦してみました。新宿に出たついでに少し立ち寄っての撮影だったのでじっくり腰を据えて撮影する事はできませんでしたが、それでも楽しく撮影する事ができました。

      Thank you for your comment. For the first shot, I challenged myself to see how much I could achieve using the D5500 with the 18–200mm lens. I only stopped by briefly while I was in Shinjuku, so I didn’t have the chance to take my time and shoot more deliberately, but I still really enjoyed the experience.

Standen House and Garden, located in East Grinstead, West Sussex, is a late 19th-century country house managed by the National Trust.
