22nd Dec 2024: Shinjuku Gyoen in Tokyo

Image
During a brief return to Japan at the end of the year, I visited Shinjuku Gyoen. Although it was already late autumn, the garden offered a serene escape in the heart of the city.  The autumn foliage here begins to change color in late October, with the rows of plane trees and ginkgo turning a brilliant golden hue first. From late November to early December, the maples reach their peak, creating a stunning display of vibrant reds. The best time to enjoy the colors is from the end of November through early December, especially on clear mornings when the hues appear most vivid.  Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me, so all the photos were taken with my iPhone. Even so, I was able to fully appreciate the quiet beauty of the autumn leaves in the center of Tokyo. 21st Dec 2024: Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS – The Shape of Joy

Image
“Baccarat ETERNAL LIGHTS – The Shape of Joy,” a cherished winter tradition at Ebisu Garden Place, was held from November 9, 2024, to January 13, 2025. At the heart of the central plaza stood the magnificent centerpiece often referred to as the “Baccarat Glass Bell”—one of the world’s largest chandeliers, measuring approximately 5 meters in height and 3 meters in width. Composed of about 8,500 crystal pieces and illuminated by 250 lights, this extraordinary work of art was created with the participation of 13 Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (M.O.F), requiring an astonishing 15,000 hours to complete. Far more than a simple lighting fixture, the glass bell is celebrated as a luminous sculpture—a design of light itself—symbolizing hope and joy for all who visit. The space is further adorned with around 100,000 champagne-gold lights and a towering 10-meter Christmas tree, creating a dazzling winter spectacle. Every 30 minutes, a special lighting performance transforms the scene into an even mo...

30th Nov 2024: In Mayfair during the 2024 festive season

Image
In Mayfair during the 2024 festive season, luxury brands competed to transform the streets into a dazzling spectacle of light.  Fortnum & Mason embraced tradition with a classic façade in rich red and gold, framing each window with luminous borders to evoke the charm of a quintessential British Christmas.  Cartier captivated passersby by wrapping its entire storefront in an enormous red ribbon, radiating the brilliance of a jewel box.  Chaumet showcased delicate snowflake-inspired lights, reflecting the sparkle of its fine jewelry.  Chanel illuminated Bond Street with installations shaped like its iconic No.5 perfume bottle, turning a brand symbol into a glowing masterpiece.  Dior, meanwhile, adorned its frontage with a lavish arch of stars and flowers, creating an enchanting, dreamlike atmosphere.  Together, these decorations transformed Mayfair into a “gallery of light,” offering visitors an unforgettable and luxurious Christmas experience. 17th Nov 2024: Acton Park in Ealing London

Image
Acton Park is a well-respected and loved public space in Ealing, West Lon don. It features a children's center, tennis courts, a pond, and a playground. The park is known for its mature trees and sunken garden. The park was opened to the public in 1888 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee (celebrating the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne). The park is surrounded by large lawns with large mature trees planted in a radial pattern. There are many mature trees in the park, especially the magnificent plane trees. It is a lovely relaxing spot where many people come for walks on weekends. There is a parking space around the park. You can also go to the park by train in a one-minute walk from Acton Central station.  When I visited, the autumn leaves were well past their peak. I think the best time to enjoy the autumn leaves is early November. When photographing autumn leaves, it is a key to pay attention to the exposure and a...

9th Oct 2024: Eiffel Tower from Port Debilly in Paris France

Image
Port Debilly is a riverside port located along the Seine in the Chaillot district of Paris’s 16th arrondissement, between the Alma and Iéna bridges. Its name honors General Jean-Louis Debilly, who fell during the Napoleonic Wars, and it was officially designated in 1905.  The site features a monument commemorating Robert Fulton’s launch of a steamboat in 1803. Behind it, the Passerelle Debilly pedestrian bridge and the Eiffel Tower create a stunning backdrop, making it a popular photo spot.  At night, the illuminated Eiffel Tower was truly breathtaking.
